Mezcal Tosba is a microbusiness founded by two cousins from San Cristobal Lachirioag, Oaxaca Mexico. As migrants living in Silicon Valley, CA in 1999, they were inspired and influenced by the entreprenurialism that surrounded them. Concerned by the increasing migration from their home region of Cajonos-Villa Alta in the Sierra Juarez mountains, they decided to form a business that would rescue the disappearing mezcal production and bring economic opportunity to the area. Mezcal Tosba is created by using traditional, and what is now called sustainable, agricultural methods of harvesting and distillation passed down by generations of farmers and mezcaleros from the region of Cajonos-Villa Alta of the Sierra Juarez in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. The agaves used for Mezcal Tosba production grow among coffee, mango, wild frut trees and sugar cane. The water is pure and clear and comes from natural springs flowing from the mountains. The The rich soil, varied growing altitudes and pure mountain water are the basis of the fine and exquisite flavor of Tosba Mezcal. Mezcal Tosbamaintains high standards of quality and work combined with passion, pride, attention to care of the land and the use of the finest ingredients to create a unique, elegant and exceptional beverage. Mezcal Tosbais certified by COMERCAM, the Mexican Council for the regulation of quality Mezcal. NOM-070-SCFI-1994, Alcoholic -Beverages-Mezcal-Specifications.

Tosba Warash is made with wild agave Warash, which is endemic to Sierra Norte, Oaxaca. Though the agave is known to grow in this region, this release from Tosba is the first mezcal made from Warash to become commercially available. As of September 2018, this agave had not been classified by the Consejo Regulador del Mezcal (CRM) and biologists from the CRM have reportedly noted that this agave is not within the CRM catalog, which is why A. sp (Warash) is printed on the label of this mezcal.
